About Congregation Or Shalom
We are a family-oriented community of religious worship, lifelong education, inclusiveness,
spiritual guidance, and Jewish life cycle support.
Congregation Or Shalom has been home to the Jewish community of the Western Main Line
since its beginning in 1974. Founding members recall children fast asleep on laps, families
playing together and worshiping together. As we have grown along with our larger community,
we have maintained that welcoming atmosphere, the sense that each of us makes a difference
simply by belonging.
Our services feature upbeat melodies and the participation of all congregants is welcomed.
After every Saturday morning service, we hold a class dedicated to reviewing the parts of the
weekly Torah reading that were not covered earlier. In addition, we offer Sunday morning
classes on Mishna, Monday evening classes on (not so) basic Judaism. In addition Rabbi
Jacob welcomes one-on-one classes on a topic of your choice. Just call the office to schedule.
And then we feature the ever popular J-Walking: Take a walk with Rabbi Jacob (hence the “J”
in J-Walking) and enjoy a discussion on Jewish topics (another reason for the “J”). This is a
mutually beneficial arrangement. You learn, Rabbi teaches, and you both get some fresh
air and exercise! These walks will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. Please
contact the office to coordinate the time. The walks take place on one of the many fine walking
trails in our area, such as Valley Forge Park, the Schuylkill River, and Radnor’s Rails to Trails.
Our Web site can only give you a tiny taste of what we are about. You have to come visit to know
for sure.
If you are new to the area and need a place to put down roots, please call the synagogue office at
610-644-9086. We can hardly wait to meet you!
