Song Writing Competition to Celebrate Israel's Day of Independence
All members of Or Shalom are invited to participate in a song writing competition.
This year, Israel's Day of Independence falls on April 26. At Or Shalom, we are planning to celebrate this event with a week of activities. Information about these activities will be announced soon. But in the meantime, we are going to write a song. Because this is Israel's 64th anniversary, the song will be based on "When I'm Sixty Four" by the Beatles. For the music and lyrics of the song, go to http://www.e-chords.com/chords/the-beatles/when-im-sixty-four
All members of Or Shalom are invited to rewrite the lyrics to this song, to make it about Israel and Israel's 64th anniversary. Both adults and children are invited to participate. The winning song will be selected by our Yom Ha'Atzmaut committee. The winner will be announced and the selected song WILL BE SUNG AT OUR FRIDAY NIGHT SERVICE ON APRIL 27TH. All entries must be submitted to the office no later than April 16th.
We hope you have fun re-writing the lyrics and that you come up with creative and entertaining songs that express our love for Israel and appreciation of it.
Good luck!

David M. Braunstein Memorial Scholarship Fund
Every year applications are received by the David M. Braunstein Memorial Scholarship Fund to help the youth of Congregation Or Shalom pay for Jewish Education, Jewish Summer Camp and Jewish related travel. In 2011, the fund helped five of our congregants have an experience of a lifetime; an experience that will promote their Jewish values and heritage.
The Congregation Or Shalom David M. Braunstein Memorial Scholarship Fund has become an additional venue for donations throughout the year. Donations can be made at any time and for any reason and sent to the synagogue office or to Diana Braunstein. Your donation will help keep the fund self-perpetuating and will allow David’s good deeds to continue. If a donation is made in honor of a simcha or as a memorial, letters on beautiful Scholarship Fund stationary will be mailed on a timely basis.
Applications for 2012 scholarships are now available and decisions will be made by the committee on April 15, 2012. Please feel free to download the Scholarship Application Form (Due March 15, 2012) and read the moving statements from those who received a scholarship in 2011.
SAVE THE DATE: Mitzvah Mania 2012!

In the past, Or Shalom has sponsored Red Cross Blood Drives, Alex’s Lemonade Stands, Household Goods Drives, and more. And since we have months to plan, we can make this the most fruitful Mitzvah Mania ever — and maybe secure some much-needed publicity as a bonus!
